A sauna, is a small room or house designed as a place to experience dry or wet heat sessions, or an establishment with one or more of these and auxiliary facilities.

How to Map

Add a node to the center of the sauna or draw an area along the building outline. Tag the node or area with leisure=sauna, instead of the earlier tag amenity=sauna (~1000). A sauna is not a amenity ("a useful and important facility") and suits better as leisure ("a spare-time thing"). People can live well without a sauna. A sauna belongs alongside with map features water parks (leisure). The tag amenity=sauna becomes obsolete and data conversion needs to be done.

Tags used in combination

  • name=* the name of the sauna
  • opening_hours=* might be useful for public saunas.
  • access=yes for public saunas where you pay a entry fee (or free in rare cases) to visit (default)
  • access=permissive for saunas that you need to pay rent for usage
  • access=private for saunas that privately owned; for example meant for camping guests
