Revised Proposal
People love to gamble. Some nations more, other less, in some countries it's legal, in some it's not, but there are casinos almost everywhere. And they should appear on the map. To qualify as a casino for OSM mapping, a facility must have at lease one *manned* gambling table. In other words, a casino must employ croupiers[1] in order to be a casino. Craps, blackjack, roulette, or baccarat tables qualify.
Original Proposal
People love to gamble. Some nations more, other less, in some countries it's legal, in some it's not, but there are casinos almost everywhere. And they should appear on the map. I'm however not sure about if this should apply to smaller places. In Romania, for example, the national lottery has placed slot machines in many of it's sales offices - usually 2-6 of them.

Applies to nodes or areas - sometimes a casino can be an impressive building!

- Playing card and dice is better(in combination with each other), a roulette wheel is harder to render without looking like a dartboard or any other wheel, specially if it should be rendered small. --Skippern 15:32, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

My point of view is that places where lottery tickets are sold, or that have slot machines, are not casinos. Geez, in spain around 90% of all bars have a slot machine. I'd say that, in order to qualify as a casino, a facility must have at lease one *manned* gambling table. In other words, a casino must employ croupiers[2] in order to be a casino. - That makes sense to me and would apply globally. Countries attitudes to gambling varies from very strict control where slot machines only appear in a few places to those like Spain and Australia. But in all cases, there are "real" casinos as described by Ivan. I have taken the liberty of revising the proposal, if Guenter does not object. MikeCollinson 18:03, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

- That was my first thought, but looking at existing values... In Key:leisure we have landuse area type things. Cinemas are amenities. So unless we want to re-organise some amenties to become leisures... -- Harry Wood 14:03, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
