Definition

A lot (or plot) is an area of land owned or meant to be owned by a certain entity.

Usage

Draw an area area of the plot. Because of OpenStreetMap's rule of verifiability, the plot's boundaries must be visible on the ground. A common way to identify these is by boundary=*.

In addition to boundary=lot, there have been two other (mutually exclusive) ways to map tracts of land:

  • place=plot - more common way to denote plots, typically a named one, can also be used as a node and also part of the place hierarchy. May be combined with boundary=place.
  • allotments=plot - way to denote individual plots inside an allotment.
