This tag indicates that a train must blow its horn (whistle) at a specific railroad crossing in a country where railroad rules do not generally require horn usage.

In Canada and the United States, this tag is generally not used, because trains are required to blow their horns at all crossings unless otherwise designated. However, it may be used if there is a non–quiet zone crossing within what otherwise would be quiet zone limits, in order to emphasize that the horn shall be blown here and normally nowhere else.

If there is a train horn sound but it comes from a stationary device on the ground at the crossing, use crossing:whistle=wayside instead.
