This tag is used to describe 
fixed artillery batteries. They consist of platforms on which guns or howitzers are or were mounted. Individual guns can be tagged with historic=cannon.
How to map
Place a 
node at the centre or draw an 
area along the outlines of the battery and tag it with defensive_works=battery.
Tags used in combination
building=bunker- if the battery is encased in or built on top of abunker.heritage=*- if the battery has a heritage status.historic=fort- if the battery is a fort by itself. Do not use if the battery is part of a largerfortification.name=*- if the battery is named.start_date=*- year of completion
Notes
For batteries in an operational state it is advisable to add a military=* tag to them.
The tag military=bunker can be used for operational batteries with a bunker.
