National monuments in Bosnia and Herzegovina are declared and registered by the 
Commission to Preserve National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina KONS (kons.gov.ba) (in Serbo-Croatian: Komisija za očuvanje nacionalnih spomenika Bosne i Hercegovine KONS), a state-level institution (commission, agency). Declared national monuments include sites, natural/urban/architectural assembles, as well as immovable and movable heritage of historical and cultural importance to Bosnia and Herzegovina.[1][2]
The Commission (KONS) issues its decisions to declare cultural property a National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina during sessions held in accordance to Article V paragraph 4 of Annex 8 of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Article 39 paragraph 1 of the Rules of Procedure of the Commission.
Sites of exclusively natural heritage do not fall under the mandate of Annex 8 or the Commission.
The Commission's old website (old.kons.gov.ba), which is currently offline, previously served as an online documentation archive.
The abbreviation KONS (kons) stands for the Commission to Preserve National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina, derived from its Serbo-Croatian name: Komisija za očuvanje nacionalnih spomenika Bosne i Hercegovine KONS.
