A water works (or water treatment plant) is a facility where water is treated to make it suitable for human consumption before being sent to the water network.
How to map
One may add water_works=desalination to describe facilities that have to take away mineral components from saline water before sending it to the water network. There is a synonym tag for this, man_made=desalination_plant.
- man_made=wastewater_plant - A wastewater plant (also known as sewage works, sewage treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant, reclamation plant) is a facility used to treat wastewater. water works = incoming drinking water, wastewater plant = outgoing sewage.
- man_made=water_tower - a tower storing water
- man_made=pumping_station - should be used along with substance=water for facilities were water is pumped but not treated.
