A water works (or water treatment plant) is a facility where water is treated to make it suitable for human consumption before being sent to the water network.

How to map

Draw an area marking this feature. It is also OK to set a node at its center, if mapping as area is impossible.

Add man_made=water_works.

This tag is often combined with landuse=industrial, which is both correct and may help simpler data consumers.

Useful combinations

Desalination plants

One may add water_works=desalination to describe facilities that have to take away mineral components from saline water before sending it to the water network. There is a synonym tag for this, man_made=desalination_plant.
