traffic_sign=variable_message is used for a Variable Message Sign, also known as a VMS or Dynamic Message Sign. Remotely programmed to give traffic information such as expected travel times to destinations, temporary speed limits, incident warnings etc.

How to map

Set a node node on the highway or as a separate node beside the road and tag it with traffic_sign=variable_message.

  • It is useful to add direction=*
  • If the sign's current message can be viewed online, the website=* tag can be used. node Example
