Redirect or not?
From the recent round of reverts:
- Me: "Why should we keep poor, uninformative page instead of redirect to a comprehensive one?" (Conditional restrictions)
- @MalgiK:: "For the suffix infox box on right hand side, see https://imgur.com/a/6c1QVt7"
So please, explain which useful information does the "suffix infobox" carry? It's just a box with an image, a brief description and virtually nothing else. Why should anyone have to read this before reading the comprehensive page (Conditional restrictions) about a very complex topic? Wiki should serve readers looking for information, and I would argue that the current version has no valuable information at all. We should not force readers to click several times to find the information, and a specific suffix or tag does not mandate that we have a separate page. Duja (talk) 09:56, 10 August 2026 (UTC)

- Btw, it seems i'm not the only one who want's to have no Redirect, see:

- I added Taginfo link to Conditional restrictions page [1]. Does that resolve your concern?
I'll tag Chris2map for his input. I'm still of the opinion that this page should be a redirect. Duja (talk) 16:25, 12 August 2026 (UTC)- Even though the taginfo link addition is a good idea here, for me it doesn't replace a page. I don't view the whole matter entirely neutrally, but rather tend to view it through the lens of Wiki maintenance. I generally don't like redirects to much — only in specific cases. I am particularly unhappy with key and tag pages. For me, even a very small amount of information is often better than no information at all. I also consider the links between the wiki page, data item, and —for instance— taginfo to be an important aspect. That is why I find the extra click required to reach a more comprehensive / extensive description page to be acceptable. That could be added with {{Main}}, e.g. {{Main|Conditional restrictions}}. For me, the order of preference is as follows: a dedicated page with content, or no page at all, a redirect page comes only last. --Chris2map (talk) 17:14, 12 August 2026 (UTC)

- Fair enough. For my part, I prefer redirects to ultra-short pages... but on the other hand, I don't like having "overview prose" pages such as conditional restrictions if they fully cover the scope on an existing key or tag. From a casual reading, it seems that the content of conditional restrictions could be just moved over Key:*:conditional, without any data loss or readers' confusion, so all of us can be happy thereafter. I basically did the same with Types of relations, merging it into Key:type back in the day. (I wish I could do the same with shops but that one is more complex).
