Height of steps

I am confused by the image that was chosen to represent flat steps on this Wiki page. This does not fit the description "can be driven on (very slowly, in exceptional situations) with ordinary vehicles" in my opinion.

I have the feeling that some may interpret "flat steps" as a flat average incline of the way, where the steps are far apart, rather than the height of each step.

We need to either change the description or the image. --Mapl (talk) 16:06, 16 January 2026 (UTC)

Whether you can drive on the steps depends also on the width and on the legality. I think the situation in the image can be described as flat_steps=yes (and you could physically drive a motorcycle on it), but there are also other situations where cars actually drive on them (the current picture looks as if it were forbidden to use the way with motorcycles in this particular situation). OK, in this picture I agree the steps are quite high, let's find a better one. --Dieterdreist (talk) 16:39, 16 January 2026 (UTC)
Here is another picture, but I think in this case it was only temporary for construction work, so this might be even more misleading. --Dieterdreist (talk) 17:10, 16 January 2026 (UTC)
That picture might be a bit less clear, as there are features, like the flattening-ramps, present, which don't have to do with the core idea of what we mean by "flat_steps" Maybe something like these could be prototypical? I agree with you that we should include the currently depicted image in what we mean by "flat_steps". I will draft an alternative description text, which makes clear that the steps in a whole need to be flat on average, and not each single step. --Mapl (talk) 23:15, 16 January 2026 (UTC)
Update: I have added a sentence clarifying that flat steps are mainly about distance between steps. Now the currently used image does not feel contradictory to the description. --Mapl (talk) 20:42, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
