mercury, mercury_vapor, sodium, sodium_vapor

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_lamp redirects to
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury-vapor_lamp
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_lamp redirects to

Currently we see

lamp_type	mercury
lamp_type	sodium
lamp_type	sodium_vapor

Therefore please change it to just

lamp_type	mercury
lamp_type	sodium

or just

lamp_type	mercury_vapor
lamp_type	sodium_vapor

Unfortunately I think it's way more complicated than this. The wikipedia article mentions 3 different types of sodium lighting: LPSV, HPSV & SON. Of course much modern lighting will be LED too. SK53 (talk)
Moreover, the usual acronym for high-pressure sodium lamps seems to be HPS, not HPSV. And we prefer our tags in lowercase, so it would be "hps". (IMHO, the word "vapor" is redundant in the context of gas-discharge lights.) Anyway, since "sodium" is already used here, I'm tagging some lights as "sodium" right now. Naively, I'd tag the ones with very orange light as sodium myself. 09:51, 30 July 2018 (UTC)

soDDium

https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/lamp_type shows

5999 for soddium,
300+ https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/tags/lamp_type=sodium_vapor
100+ https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/tags/lamp_type=sodium

Isn't that terrible? Jidanni (talk) 00:27, 28 July 2017 (UTC)

Or vapour?

high_pressure_sodium

I'm not entirely happy with the newest proposed values "high_pressure_sodium" and "low_pressure_sodium". The underscore is generally used in place of blanks, so "high_pressure_sodium" means "high pressure sodium". However, the phrase "high pressure" is a noun, not an adjective. The grammatically correct form is with a dash: "high-pressure sodium"; therefore, the correct tag would be "high-pressure_sodium". But it's quite long. I would vote for "hps". Use on ways?

Could this tag be used on ways, for example highway=residential. combined with lit=yes, to map the type of streetlights without having to map each light individually? -- T99 (talk) 16:52, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

solar_lamp is not a lamp type but an energy source

I don't understand what type of lamp "solar_lamp" is. A lamp that emits solar energy? --holgermappt (talk) 19:58, 11 January 2020 (UTC)
