Since there are only 36 instances of this key (as of now), maybe it is also worth while considering a different tagging approach: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Berlin/Verkehrswende/Radwege#Radfahrstreifen_in_Mittellage_.2F_Fahrradschleuse_.2F_Fahrradweichen (I wrote a similar comment on the Key:turn discussion page too) --Alfons234 (talk) 07:38, 10 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

What about cases where multiple vehicles can use one lane, and allowed turn direction depends on a vehicle? See case where cyclists and buses can go straight and other vehicles only turn right Note also turn:bus:lanes=* and File:Special turn lane rule for bus.jpg example Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 07:43, 10 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes, in these cases this tagging has its legitimacy and that is how it is defined: "Defines the specific turn lanes applying to bicycles, used where overriding turn:lanes=* is necessary". On Mapillary there is an image under a free licence if we want to explicitly illustrate this case in the wiki or list it as an example. --Supaplex030 (talk) 08:05, 10 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Brilliant, thank you for adding the explanation in the article. I had no idea why and when overriding might be necessary. Now it's clear. --Alfons234 (talk) 08:09, 10 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Example Image

The example picture in the info box is misleading, isn't it? Because it does not show a situation in which a different turning rule applies to other vehicles on that lane. Should I exchange it for the Mapillary picture mentioned above, cropped to the traffic sign? --Supaplex030 (talk) 08:18, 10 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Supaplex030: I would not say that it is misleading (this tagging can be also used there to express this situation), but this Mapillary picture mentioned above would be even better. I even tried to do this but ended distracted by improving Wikimedia Commons documentation and bitrot in related software and I run out of time. I have changed the image (you are welcome to undo it if it doesn't fit so well) and described the case as an example. However, I wonder, especially in the case of bicycles, how it is when the other lanes are not allowed for bicycles... Should the lanes then be left empty, i.e. turn:bicycle:lanes=||through;right..? --Supaplex030 (talk) 08:30, 10 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I would leave them empty (and tag per-lane accessibility for cyclists in a separate tag) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 11:22, 10 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
