Proposal of "water_source=no" to mean "no streams or water sources within 2 km"

This key "water_source" was approved as a way to tag the water supply for a fire hydrant. That's why most of the values are "main". Proposing to have the value "no" defined as "there is no water found nearby. No lakes, streams within 2 km" is not a good idea, because this is a totally different idea. Also, the presence of water within 2 km can be mapped by adding the streams and lakes within the area: Openstreetmap should contain these features. However, it's perfectly reasonable to use drinking_water=no for a shelter or campsite which lacks drinking water at the site. That should provide most of the information you are looking to add. --Jeisenbe (talk) 12:48, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

Having thought about it I agree that it would be nicer to have the stream or lake on the map. I'm going to remove this tag after making sure the nearest streams are mapped. Thanks for friendly, constructive criticism :D--PangoSE (talk) 15:37, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
