marine shops?

there doesn't seem to be a Tag:shop=marine tag... yet it seems like very relevant tag for sailors. Once you get into a town, you often need to find those shops ashore for repairs, and having a directory of those outlined on the openseamap seems like a great improvement!

i added two such shops in montreal here: with such a tag, because i couldn't find any other relevant ones. let me know if i should change that.

to quote the Key:fixme note I wrote there: no shop= tag seems to fit here, this is a marine equipment shop, not a scuba diving one, nor sports, it is also not a dive center or a marina.

I guess the next step would be to go through a Proposal_process right?

In my mind it should be linked to (but is distinct from) a Tag:waterway=boatyard, a Harbour and a Tag:leisure=marina. I also considered using Tag:shop=sports, Tag:shop=scuba_diving and Tag:shop=fishing yet none of those seem to be relevant either. --TheAnarcat (talk) 19:13, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

There is already some shop=sail* values and two pages of various shop=marin* values in Taginfo. So look if the existing use of shop=marine agrees with your idea and try to document it here and in the shop page. RicoZ (talk) 13:18, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
Interesting! I somewhat missed those. I also see a shop=boat tag that seems even more popular, but seems mostly concerning shops that sell *boat* and not random marine furnitures (although the two overlap). The shop=sail one is a little restrictive as non-sailing boats may shop in a marine shop as well. the shop=marine one seems like a good fit, however. should i make a proposal or just document those two tags already? thanks for the feedback! --TheAnarcat (talk) 19:49, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
I would not do a formal proposal for that, maybe ask for opinions in osm-tagging mailing list. RicoZ (talk) 23:41, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
Well, I missed your comment and went ahead for an RFC in Proposed_features/Marine_shops, and sent it to the tagging mailing list (which i guess does the same thing). I also somewhat overlooked shop=boat - i think - maybe it's sufficient to our case with additionnal tags? yet it would be weird to have a "sells_boats=no" field for those a shop=boat... not sure how that would work. :) anyways, this discussion can move to the proposed feature now i guess. --TheAnarcat (talk) 00:13, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
