Focus on the OSM Community

I would like to see more about building the systems and communities of OSM and less about improving the database. There are strong elements of community building described in the "What do you need the money for" section, but that good content is not well developed in the later sections.

On this application - briefly, the proposal template asks if the project will help you to scale your community mapping efforts and if it will support the mission of the OSM Foundation and your local community. Also it asks for 'metrics' or measures of success in achieving the goals of the project. There is little evidence for any of these.

Activity: Applicant Chomba Chishala, OSM username "chomba chishala" has worked on the Zambia map in the last 2 months and is 67 of 110 mappers. The other applicants have not.

I think that with some support from OMSF in designing processes for planning and community building this could be a worthwhile community development project. However it may be too late in this grant cycle for that revision.

I hope that helps; Craig.za (talk) 15:44, 17 May 2020 (UTC) Thanks for your supporting, however, note that this chapter has a lot of new mappers who joined recently and for this reason the actively' can't be shown much thou they contribute to other community mapping, check too the contributions these new mappers has been making on OSM community(Charles96,Evelyn Tembo, Shadrick Jailos). Thou the evidence hasn't been satisfied you, we strong believe that our project will support the OSM mission and the mapping community. Regards. In addition, as we stated that we will engage the community, here it includes community developers for we can't do it alone without involving the community development responsible people. Our country, ministry is connected so as we will engage the Ministry of local Government, the ministry of Community development will be part of it too.

BUILDING CAPACITY

How "BUILDING CAPACITY" will be mapped? Because i have doubts is it within scope of OSM Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 23:45, 16 May 2020 (UTC

We are going to teach mappers on how to contribute to osm and teach them on how to use different tool when mapping. We believed that this will be very helpful and work for this project.
And how building capacity will be tagged in OSM database? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 12:58, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

We know that there is no capacity for buildings as they come in very mane different categories. However, sometimes we may use numbers of buildings to estimate the population size. We can tag them as YMUNZA, or generally like we knew that schools, hospitals, lodges have building capacity so the tag can be created being tagged in the OSM database. Others means can be created and found by you as you're expertise on this issues.

"so the tag can be created being tagged in the OSM database" - so it is proposal to fund mapping something that may be not mappable in OSM and there is no agreed tag for use? BTW, I am pretty sure that tagging building capacity would be unverifiable and should not be encouraged (though building=* and building:levels=* and building size tagged via mapping geometry would be a good indirect indicators that are mappable) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 12:26, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

"building size tagged via mapping geometry would be a good indirect indicators that are mappable) User" If that is the Case, then we are very much ready to go by your direction so that we don't face any challenges in our working. Thanks for this great guidance, we look forward for a continuation of this great support. Regards.
