Wait, why this page is created on the OpenStreetMap Wiki? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 15:47, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

likely because i wasn't careful enough. will move it later. Nfgusedautoparts (talk) 15:54, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
Hi Mateusz - the OHM project has been using the OSM wiki since 2012, as it is a direct offshoot of OSM & we share a common infrastructure, have almost 100% community overlap, and no one has objected.
So, I disagree with Richard's assessment that he wasn't careful. It's quite helpful to have it here.
We're in the middle of upgrading our software stack, so the site is a little rough, but there's even some historical mapping in Krakow going back to 900/1000. You can see it here: https://www.openhistoricalmap.org/#map=15/50.0566/19.9434&layers=OD. But also, our stylesheets need to be updated, so the old city walls are not as apparent. You can see them by activating data.
Please let me know if you have any concerns, as I'd like to make sure they're addressed. Thanks also for the content bugs you filed on github. We should be fixing those over the next several weeks. Kind regards, Jeff Jeffmeyer (talk) 18:09, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
OK, it is a bit surprising to me as I was never aware about that despite that I am quite active on Wiki. A bit like discovering that you have a dragon living in your kitchen for the last 5 months that you somehow never encountered or noticed. Is OHM following OSM tagging scheme, without influencing it? Because while I would want OHM to succeed I would prefer to avoid - for example - changes to tag definitions or oppose votes on proposals of things inconvenient to OHM. Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 18:19, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Ha! Well, I'd prefer we be a friendly puppy in the kitchen than a dragon, but yes, we've been here quite a while. Thriving more at some times than others, but getting more momentum as of late. OHM is indeed following OSM tagging and extending it where necessary for our needs, but only in our database, and certainly not influencing the OSM scheme (certainly not voting on proposals) in any ways that I'm aware of. OK, it can be also a friendly puppy :) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 07:08, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
@Mateusz Konieczny: To that end, I created {{See OpenHistoricalMap}} to help clean up some articles where we've been saying, "Don't do this in OSM. There's OHM for that. Don't do this either. Or this." And finally eventually getting to the point with what you would do in OSM. :^) I guess technically it's a way to fork certain pages, but I also think of it as a way for OHM to unduly influence OSM tagging. That said, I'd be very much in favor of start_date:edtf=* over the half-baked syntax that start_date=* documents, even in OSM. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 20:03, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
Wow, I meant "a way for OHM to avoid unduly influencing OSM tagging". Sorry for the confusion. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 21:18, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
