more explicit description please

Currently in the proposal text there is no more information than the tag name "livestock dip", I would suggest to add more information (at least repeat the "definition" from the info box), like that it is used for desinfection, that it might be a pool or sprinklers, etc. (or whatever you intend to use this tag for), a short phrase that describes the feature. Possibly including also alternative words, so that it can be found easier by text search. --Dieterdreist (talk) 10:04, 21 May 2017 (UTC)

Unusual name

It's called plunge dip on Wikipedia. Google finds 12.9k hits for "plunge dip", 43.6k hits for "cattle dip" and only 2.4k hits for "livestock dip". So why call it "livestock dip"? Taginfo doesn't show any man_made=livestock_dip's yet, man_made=dipping_platform is used 3x, amenity=cattle_dip is used also, but only once. --Hufkratzer (talk) 10:49, 3 June 2017 (UTC)

When I opened the propose I was interested to have a tag, and livestock_dip was proposed in the tagging list. If the community wants, we can change the tag without problem. I believe that each tag informed above was used only by one people. I have had many times the oportunity mapping this feature, however, no tag was proposed up to then. Used not only for cattle but also sheep. May possibly be used for otehr animals. So livestock_dip is the more universal value. Warin61 (talk) 00:48, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

Historic Dip Vats

If this tag gains traction, people might be inclined to use it to tag historic dip vats. Here in Florida, USA (as well as out West) where range cattle have been kept for a while, screwworms and ticks were removed in dip vats dug into the earth and filled with arsenic or organochlorates. As you might imagine, these are tracked by our government agencies like FLDEP [[1]] and FLDOH [[2]] are the subject of research [[3]]. I have yet to find specific locations of dip vats in Florida but that's not to say those data don't exist. -Valerietheblonde (talk) 18:55, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

I have not understood you very well. But, I believe we can specify in the page not to use man_made=livestock_dip in the cases you have cited, in another words, do not use man_made=livestock_dip to Historic dip Vats. Santamariense (talk) 23:03, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
I see no reason to exclude them, they were used to dip/bath livestock, disused:man_made=livestock_dip could be applied. Warin61 (talk) 00:51, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

Conflicting access tags.

The use of access=private with horse=yes says, for OSM, it is private access but public for horses ... for us humans it is private for the use of horses. Not certain how to resolve that conflict. Warin61 (talk) 01:23, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

Might be best to use the sub tag of livestock=sheep/cattle/horse/*.. already in use <3,000 time but not documented. Warin61 (talk) 01:44, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

Type of dip

Rather than use livestock_dip=immersion/sprinkler, it might be best to use dip=immersion/spray? This stays away from the animal, concentrating on the 'dip' and identifies the process rather than the equipment. Warin61 (talk) 01:51, 25 April 2019 (UTC)
