Almost entire seamark:building:function=* list are widely tagged with uther tags. IMO we should unly enforce these for functions not already tagged in OSM, and where it is of particular interest to destinguish a marine interest. I am not willing to start a project of adding seamark:building:function=hotel to all hotels in port cities, not even in the countries where I map, as it would be a nightmare to maintain. Maybe we should rather define it such that seamark:building:function=hotel are those hotels that stick out in such way that they are easilly identified from the seafront and thus can be used to identify your location? --Skippern 12:34, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

I agree that a great portion of Seamark tagging is redundant, espacially buildings, landmarks and infrastructure. Rather than producing duplicates of the same things there should be a discussion to harmonise tagging system between the main OSM project, OpenSeaMap and other projects which could benefit from the said tagging system - for example, OpenTopoMap. -- VileGecko 13:55, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
