Plural or singular form?

Wouldn't the singular form be more usual in OSM? E.g. we have 666 animal=horse but only 23 animal=horses, 102 animal=pig but only 5 animal=pigs, 14 animal=turkey but 0 animal=turkeys, 550 animal_breeding=horse but only 6 animal_breeding=horses, 1422 animal_breeding=pig but only 1 animal_breeding=pigs, 8 animal_breeding=turkey but 0 animal_breeding=turkeys --Hufkratzer (talk) 22:38, 9 June 2025 (UTC)

Almost all livestock=* are mass added. You would have to asked those users.
I see animals as unsuitable for building=livestock + livestock=* in the first place. As you said, there is already animal=* in general. livestock=laying_* vs livestock=broilers could be animal=* with produce=* / product=* of *=egg vs *=meat , as produce=live_animals already exists. This can further distinguish beef and *=dairy cattles. landuse=farmyard has another set of farmyard=* overlapping.
Or it should be generalized for some *=breeding , to prevent every other animal inventing a livestock=breeding_* of their own. I'm not familiar with how they work, so I don't know if there's a need for livestock=heifer as a cow livestock=pullets counterpart.
livestock=* could be used for the types of buildings here, eg building=goat_shed , building=chicken_coop , and building=sheepfold , before they are agreed upon and established. Cf building=cafo , although that needs to be discussed for building=livestock appropriateness vs the building=industrial scale. https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/appropriate-tag-for-factory-farms/114537/
