I just would like to clarify that the Red Cross societies, the ICRC or the IFRC are not formally speaking NGO as their mandate is given by the international community (throught the status of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement signed by most countries).

This said, I understand that it would be tedious to create an additional amenity only the for the Red Cross. Maybe "humanitarian" would encompass both (even though "humanitarian" is rather used for emergency in contrast with development activities).

In principle, if they aren't an NGO they shouldn't be tagged like that. From looking at data for Germany (they seemed to have most Red Cross operators tagged), I found on 2018-09-24 that the equally common combinations (in Germany) seem both: office=association and office=ngo, while "yes" and "company" are outliers. This is the overpass query I used on a German Bounding Box. Association seems fine to me, what do you think? This seems only relevant for the office tag, while most usage for Red Cross operated things is about other features (where I checked). --Dieterdreist (talk) 11:19, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
