Tram

Should this be applied to trams as well? Or should we use something like railway=tram_switch? --Nighto (talk) 08:59, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

In addition to Talk:Tag:railway=railway_crossing, I imagine a sub-tag eg switch=* (not prefixing railway:switch:*=* for reuse) is only needed when there are trolleybus sharing the wires with their complicated switching devices. --- Kovposch (talk) 09:47, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

Turnout

When exactly these should be left and right?

Based on https://github.com/openstreetmap/iD/pull/11645 it seems like you should look from position where you have single railway line, with possibility to go into two directions. Maybe this could be added somehow t the page? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 17:36, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

Ride-over switches

How to tag switches where the main line is intact through the switch and the point machinery places a ride-over on top of the main line to diverge a train onto a lesser used siding? --Gorm (talk) 07:54, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
