Optometrists who sell glasses

Could someone please better explain, or reference an example, mapping an optometrist who sells glasses. I read this, "It is often associated with an optometrist (in the US), but each should be coded separately." However, I am struggling with duplicating all but the phone number on two points, that would be less than 10 feet apart. --TreeStryder (talk) 17:33, 6 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

There may be a better method, but I am tagging the point with both shop=optician & healthcare=optometrist until I find something better. I'm not sure if this works when not all information is duplicated. --MRPockets (talk) 17:03, 28 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
I think it comes down to if they are the same shop or distinct/adjoining shops. Do they have different name/contact details or are they the same. For example in Australia you walk into the shop, and you can see the optometrist for an eye check in the back room, so they would be considered one object in OSM. If you have two shops next door to each other, one providing the optomotrist, one selling glasses they'd be two different objects in OSM. Therefore the distinction between an optometrist selling glasses and optician providing optometrist services is blurred, as in Australia pretty much all shops that sell prescription glasses, have an optometrist working on site who can do an eye check and provide a glasses prescription, and I'm not aware of any sole optometrist clinics that exist outside of a glasses shop, so best to apply both `shop=optician` + `healthcare=optometrist` to these as both services are provided.
I wouldn't go by the name either since it's mostly down to how the provider want's to brand themselves, the same way "chemist" and "pharmacy", and "pharmacist" are interchangeable when referring to the shop. Aharvey (talk) 00:20, 7 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Optics shop

Add a tag for optics shops that sell e.g., telescopes. Jidanni (talk) 04:40, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

This is clearly irrelevant to general optics. You won't see microscope being discussed here either. ---- Kovposch (talk) 05:01, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
It may be worth mentioning in "see also" as related if we would have an established tag for that Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 07:43, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
He asked the same in Talk:Key:telescope:type. Unless he wants to include custom telescope makers for the "optician" term, it would be quite far off-topic here. ---- Kovposch (talk) 09:02, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Sunglasses?

What about shop selling only noncorrective sunglasses? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 04:15, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
