traffic_signals:sound=* is used with crossing=traffic_signals to indicate that sound is emitted to indicate when crossing is permitted.

  • Use traffic_signals:sound=yes when there are signals helping to cross.
  • Use traffic_signals:sound=no when there are no acoustic signals.
  • Use for partial sound signals:
    • traffic_signals:sound=locate when there is only the signal to find the pole (tock - tock in most countries) , but no signal when walking is allowed.
    • traffic_signals:sound=walk when there is only the signal when walking is allowed (beep - beep in most countries), but no signal to find the pole.

Radio activated traffic signal sound

In places, especially residential areas, traffic signals may only emit sound, when a person with a special radio transponder beacon requests that. Compatible devices are available for the eligible e.g. from the local blind/visually impaired association.
