Cuisine in Spanish

Salut,

I have seen that you removed the type of food from the Amenity template: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Template:ES:Map_Features:amenity&diff=0&oldid=2356388. By removing this part from the template, it is no longer available on: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/ES:Objetos_del_mapa which is the list of all possible features in Spanish (MapFeatures).

Why are you removing this part and creating another template which is not used anywhere? https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:ES:Map_Features:Cuisine_(type_of_food)

In the current state, the list of types of food is hidden. Do you plan to modify all MapFeatures pages in different languages and include the template?

Merci d'avance pour vos réponses.

Hi, I changed the ES version because cuisine should not be there. The list of the "map features" are things you can see on the map. On a map, you can see a restaurant, a cafe, a fast_food. You cannot see a "cuisine" (because cuisine is a way to improve information about a restaurant. On the map you see a restaurant, you cannot see that the restaurant is an asian restaurant or an empanada restaurant) so cuisine should not be there. Hi Fred, I don't agree with how you interpret the Map Features page. One of the principles of OpenStreetMap is to not map for the render - https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Good_practice#Don't_map_for_the_renderer. That means if you cannot see it in one render (OSM-Carto), it does not mean it is never used by any rendered, or it shouldn't be listed.
What about if someone wants to make a map per cuisine with specific icons for each type?
Also, in the Map Features page, there are a lot of tags that "improve" the information of other tags, and they are still listed there.
In fact, the Map Features page is an opportunity to allow newcomers to see the possibilities with OSM. By removing sets of "In use"/"de facto" tags, you are hiding information. Map features page is the entry page for many things, and it should extended instead of restricted.

The Es page should be a translation of the english version: if you think that to add the cuisine page is a good idea, it will be better to add it on the english version rather than to add it on the es version like that everyone will benefit. But before I suggest to you to add a talk on https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:Map_features. Best regards. Fred73000 (talk) 19:36, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
