Building=demountable

I believe this is an interesting property, but it is not the building type. A demountable classroom is a classroom and it is demountable=yes or building:prefabricated=* (already in significant use), and I ask you to revert your recent edit to the building page and move the content to building:prefabricated or propose “demountable” —Dieterdreist (talk) 08:11, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Dieterdreist:, I don't really care how they're tagged (as long as we have some way of mapping it). I just saw a link to building=demountable on this page: Tag:building=container, so I just documented the current use of tag. Please feel free to edit or change any of that. It's great that building:prefabricated=* already exists - but look at Special:WhatLinksHere/Key:building:prefabricated: building:prefabricated=* is only mentioned on 2 international wiki pages, none of which are related to buildings... so I think the documentation needs to be majorly improved, otherwise no one will figure out that building:prefabricated=* exists, and that it is a better option than building=demountable or building=prefabricated --Kylenz (talk) 08:29, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi, it's a screenshot of OSM carto with some lines drawn on top and a popup. There is no option in the license dropdown that works in this situation.

Hi, Property:P8 is for linking to external data sources, not for linking to internal sites like the wiki and taginfo.

That kind of linking is done automatically in places like the osm-website - every tag with a wiki page automatically becomes a hyperlink, no need to manually add Property:P8 —Kylenz 14:41, 22 September 2026 (UTC)

Actually, that isn't automatic, it only works if (and after) the list of tags is updated. Also, that is of limited usefulness when tags routinely include multiple values. Those are issues that you should raise on openstreetmap/opensteetmap-website ^GitHub, both of with are trivial to implement if they accept the idea. (automatically running the perl script every X weeks (and ideally speeding up that script!?); and linkifying semicolon-delimited tags like cuisine=burger;chicken cuisine=burger;chicken). Fixing the root cause of an issue is always better than workarounds like this --Kylenz 09:20, 23 September 2026 (UTC)

If it only works for some countries, it might not be a good example. Links should give a reasonable result for most if not all tags. It doesn't really matter where it's hosted. I don’t think ‘burden’ is a good description, I’m happy to implement these improvements if the ideas are accepted. When we added support for tag2link last year, the idea wasn’t to misuse that feature as a workaround for limitations with the existing linkification of wiki pages.
