I'm still not quite firm with the licenses and copyrights, so I better ask: Do these certainly fall under Template:PD-shape or does it need further explanation as it is done on WMCommons ( https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:PD-PRC-Road_Traffic_Signs , e.g. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:China_road_sign_%E8%B7%AF_44b.jpg )? --Chris2map (talk) 18:03, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

Good point! PD-PRC-Road Traffic Signs applies to also complex traffic signs and is 100% safe unlike not clearly specified "really simple shape" that depends on court decisions. And looking at this it seems that TOO in China is really low, so this specific template may be actually a better and safer Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 19:07, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
I created Template:PD-PRC-Road Traffic Signs but the question is whether this images qualify for that Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 19:11, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
I see following options:
Mark as PD-shape and hope that is correct even in China
Assume that it represent actual signs and use {{PD-PRC-Road Traffic Signs}}
Ask uploader to confirm above
Retag to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Beijing_Expwy_S11_sign_no_name.svg or https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Beijing_Expwy_S11_sign_with_name.svg series and let Commons deal with it
Ask Wikimedia Commons to properly tag above (I opened https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Village_pump/Copyright#China_traffic_signs_copyright )

Also: WHY NOTHING CAN BE SIMPLE WITH DAMN COPYRIGHT? Also, it is petty to complain about that given atrocities legal in China, but making this logo a copyrightable work is an interesting idea Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 19:27, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
I agree with you. Thank you for looking after that! I think we then should not apply PD-shape but PD-PRC-Road Traffic Signs. I only can assume that the description from WMCommons is appropriate. Perhaps there comes some feedback from "Village_pump". The created template must then be completed with the license information. But I'm wondering if we also need to consider creator's rights? Or is it still PD and the creator has no right? --Chris2map (talk) 22:01, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
My theory is that regular text, without caligraphy, without any customization, without additional symbol or other tweaks and simple background is not enough to be above threshold of originality anywhere. The saparate question is whether we need to care about China copyright at all (Commons cares due to their rules requiring work to be passing rules both in USA and country of origin). Wikimedia Commons user replied: "Interesting, zhwikisource doesn't have local copy of GB 5768《道路交通标志和标线》, but regareless, they are in fact public domain as per 7.3.2.3: [2] Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 16:03, 22 January 2022 (UTC)" https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Commons:Village_pump/Copyright&oldid=624425785#China_traffic_signs_copyright So maybe the best solution would be to apply {{PD-PRC-Road Traffic Signs}} ? I've just added the template to the road sign files. Hopefully got all. --Chris2map (talk) 13:53, 28 January 2022 (UTC)
Here is a feedback from uploader Herman Lee Zh. --Chris2map (talk) 16:31, 28 January 2022 (UTC)
