Where should issues be reported?

Yurik, I did not find a way to open an issue about the bot (https://github.com/Sophox/sophox/tree/metabot/metabot is a branch, so any issues would appear to be about Sophox). Is there a more appropriate place to request changes, besides here or Talk:Data_items? --Jeisenbe (talk) 13:27, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

@Jeisenbe: The branch got merged to master a couple years ago, so I guess the main issue tracker would be a reasonable place to report bugs, though I'm not sure if a bug report there would have any greater visibility than at Talk:Data items since metabot and Sophox are somewhat unmaintained at this point. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 18:54, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

Data Items should not be created for undocumented tags

I propose that Yurikbot be changed to only add new data items for documented tags which already have a wiki page in at least one language. I do not see a benefit to creating date items for undocumented tags.

According to Data_items#Item_Creation_Process the Data Items are automatically created by this bot, even before a tag is documented, if a tag has a certain standard format and more than 10 uses in the database. The data item is created in this case with the text "‎Created a new Item: Auto-updating from Wiki pages" - e.g. https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Item:Q19947&action=history - this is not helpful.

It is a bad idea to encourage wiki users to start editing these data items without first creating an actual human-readable wiki page to document the tag, and alert other wiki users of the documentation via Special:RecentChanges.

Limited to language ?

Hi Yuri,

It seem that your bot added this to ref:isil (Q612) status.

  • in use
    • limited to language
      • Czech-language documentation
      • Spanish-language documentation

How do you determine limited to language ?
ISIL is an international identifier for library around the world.

--Pyrog (talk) 10:40, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

@Pyrog: This was part of an initial effort by the bot to identify mismatches between translations of the same key/tag description page. Most of the time, "limited to language" qualifiers should be removed, but in the event of a conflict between languages, some investigation or discussion may be needed. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 18:52, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

Wrong automated wikidata assignments to osm dataitems

@Yurik: It seems the bot did automated assignments of wikidata Q's numbers to osm dataitems, see e.g. this edit: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Item:Q4720&diff=next&oldid=1756938 How does the bot do this (which logic is behind this)? Did there were a talk/discussion before that automatic assignments, if so where? --MalgiK (talk) 07:44, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

@MalgiK: The bot only synchronized data items with wiki pages. In this case, the QID was introduced by hand in the wiki page's infobox. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 18:50, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
