The Channel Islands are a group of islands to the west of the Cherbourg Peninsular (Cotentin Peninsula). Though not part of the UK, they are part of the British Isles. In the past they formed a single Crown dependency but they have been split into two states (Bailiwicks) as distinct Crown dependencies.
