Camino de Santiago
Information
The mapping of the Camino de Santiago is part of the European long-distance paths program. The 'Camino is a portion of the new E3 long distance path promoted by Europe.
This page gather the information about the mapping of the Camino de Santiago, as walking. The mapping of the bicycle route of the Camino, from Trondheim (Norway) is a parallel project : EV3
The differrent ways are included in the network :
153968.
You can add ways, variants.
According to the Legistation, the GR (Chemins de Grande Randonnée)can't be mapped as they are intellectual property of the Fédération Française de Randonnée Pédestre. but pluri-secular ways like the ways to Santiago de Compostella should be in OpenStreetMap. For this purpose, for distinguishing the Camino, as pilgrimage, from the GR, as hiking, main churches (as Vézelay, Le Puy-en-Velay, Conques, Moissac...) must be added to the relation as role=place_of_worship (see below).
Thank you for helping us to make the first free pilgrims map.
Ultreia !
Notes
- For mapping the bicycle itinerary see EV3.
- Because the superroute is a useless type and is not referenced, we tag all the main relations as type=route where members can be also relations type=route.
The Map
You can see the map here : http://osm.lonvia.de/hiking.html?lat=47.35845&lon=4.16382&zoom=6&layers=TFBTF
But in fact, the most part of the Spanish mapped way is from the EV3. This must be corrected.

Other
Don't forget mapping the amenities (shelter, fountain, drinking water, bench, toilets, pharmacy... amenity=*), shops (shop=*) and other touristic features (hostel, camp, picnic_site, viewpoint... tourism=*) along the way that could have interest for the pilgrims, but WITHOUT including them into the relation.
