Status: proposed

A proposed key used to indicate that a shop or other feature is operated by a charity. The advantage it poses is enabling a shop to also be tagged with the specific kind of item or service provided. This key would deprecate shop=charity.

How to map

Since charity=* is a non-physical key, it should be combined with other top-level tags; e.g.:

  • shop=second_hand - A shop selling second hand goods.
  • shop=* - Other shops selling retail products or offering services.
  • amenity=social_facility - A facility that provides social services.
    • social_facility=food_bank - A non-residential facility that distributes pre-packaged food, usually to the poor, free of charge or below market price.
    • social_facility=soup_kitchen - A non-residential facility that provides prepared meals, usually to the poor, free of charge or below market price.
  • amenity=food_sharing - A location - usually a publicly accessible shelf, box, cabinet, or fridge - where people drop off and pick up food to reduce food waste and/or food insecurity.
  • amenity=give_box - A small facility where people drop off and pick up various types of items in the sense of free sharing and reuse.
  • amenity=public_bookcase - A street furniture containing books. Take one, leave one.
  • amenity=toy_library - A place to play with or lend games and toys.
  • amenity=recycling + recycling_type=container - A container that accepts waste material for reuse or recycling.
