The key window=* is mostly used with the value yes to mark the location of a window or with the value skylight to mark the location of a skylight.
It is also used to indicate that a building or building part has or does not have windows[1].

|---|---|---|
Base tag | ||
| window | yes | |
| window | no | there are no windows on this building, building:part or door |
| window | skylight | skylight / rooflight |
| window | * | the function/type of the window (e.g. display_window) |
Measurements | ||
| window:height | length value | the height of a window (i.e. the space between the top and the bottom of the window) |
| window:breast | length value | the breast of a window (i.e. the space between the ground of the floor and the bottom of the window). An alternative would be to use min_height=* as already in use for buildings.

Shape and Structure | ||
| window:shape | rectangle/circle/semicircle/triangle/diamond/… | The main shape of the window |
| window:top:shape | rectangle/semicircle/triangle/arc/… | The shape of the upper end of the window. The bottom can be tagged similarly with window:bottom:shape=*.
|
| window:panes | 2x2, 3x2 | the number and arrangement of panes (horizontal x vertical) |
| window:shutter | no/left/right/both | whether there are one-sided or two-sided shutters. If no shutter-related tag is present, then it is assumed that the windows don't have shutters. (The directions are seen from the inside of the building.) |
