Proposal

This feature was originally proposed in 2007 but not approved due to lack of feedback. I removed the previous votes that are visible in history. A permanent page already exists tourism=aquarium and the tag is in use: taginfo

Rationale

Aquariums are common and popular visitor attractions (see Wikipedia's [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_aquaria list of acquaria). They represent for aquatic animals what are zoos for terrestrial animals and are usually well recognizable from them, therefore like zoos they deserve a specific tag.

Examples

Tagging

Although this is not a mere tourist feature the choice of tourism key is consistent with other like zoo and museum

Applies to

The tag can be used on a node or an area. It be used for public (free or charged) stand-alone aquarium attractions (ie not part of a zoo). Generally the attraction is entirely or mostly indoors. Large, outdoor theme-park style marine attractions (eg SeaWorld) would generally not be included.

  • I oppose this proposal I oppose this proposal. attraction=aquarium, allowing to use tourism=attraction on the same object would be better Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 17:10, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
Quick note: The key attraction=* is already used for theme parks' attractions. --Jgpacker (talk) 18:42, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
Yes, also tourism=attraction is used for everything so is non useful to tag all with tourism=attraction + attraction=something. --redrat 19:32, 05 Oct 2014 (UTC)

  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal. Voting yes although I think that the description is too generic, this should not be a tag for all kinds of aquariums but only to those relevant for tourists (i.e. it should be required that the aquarium can be visited). It should also be made clear that this tag is intended for a whole site, possible containing more than one "fish containment", similar to a zoo. Not sure, why outdoor spaces are excluded here. Looks as if some further discussion would be helpful.--Dieterdreist (talk) 09:49, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
