Atlantic Coast Line Railroad
The Atlantic Coast Line Railroad was one of the major freight and passenger railroads in the southeast U.S. until 1967, and is now part of CSX. Lines formerly operated by it or a subsidiary should be tagged old_railway_operator=ACL in addition to railway=rail (if still in use) or railway=abandoned. (Note: the Louisville and Nashville Railroad was a major enough subsidiary to have its own page and tag.)
See Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains/ICC valuations/Atlantic Coast Line Railroad for a chronology (which may have some errors) of lines constructed by the ACL and predecessors, compiled by the Interstate Commerce Commission in 1917.
The Atlantic Coast Line's main line ran from Richmond, Virginia to just southwest of Tampa, Florida with numerous branch lines and spurs. With some exceptions, mileposts on the branch lines usually continued from the previous line so they nearly always indicated the distance to Richmond, Virginia. A letter prefix was assigned to the branch lines to indicate the line.
In 1967, the Atlantic Coast Line merged with its rival, the Seaboard Air Line Railroad. The combined company became the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. After the merger, the former Atlantic Coast Line main line became known as the "A Line" and "A" was added as a prefix to its mileposts. Branch lines also has "A" added to the beginning of its existing letter prefix (example: "B" became "AB").
Below is a list (roughly complete) of ex-ACL lines, with mapping status.
