This proposal wants to install a unified tagging for escalators (DE:Rolltreppe)

Tagging

  • highway=steps
  • escalator=yes/parallel/(no) ( Yes= escalator only, parallel= steps and escalator, no=steps only)

  • escalator_dir=up/down/dynamic/speedwalk (Up: Escalator ascends, down: Escalator descends, dynamic: escalator changes direction on demand, speedwalk: transportation only horizontally)

Optional Tagging

The direction of the way in OSM shall be the same like will be decided in the steps proposal(s). (represented by the direction arrow in your editor).

The direction of movement is independent of that. (represented by escalator_dir)

Example

There is an escalator from the 2nd floor to the 1st floor moving downstairs all day. Then the arrow in your editor will point from 1st floor up to the 2nd floor, if "up" is the direction that is decided to be used in the steps proposal. Because the escalator is moving persons down, the escalator_dir key will be set to "down".
