Welcome to the page for the Gold Coast (11675459 11675459), a city in Australia. This project page is a sub-project of the Queensland OSM Project and is used to coordinate local mapping efforts and enhance collaboration in the area.

Datasets and foreign keys

Datasets listed on the City of Gold Coast Open Data Portal and licensed under CC BY 3.0 or CC BY 4.0 are usable in OSM.

Note: viewing data in the ArcGIS viewer seems broken. Depending on which feature is pressed, details may be shown for a completely unrelated feature. This appears to at least affect Urban Forest and Parking Signs. This can be bypassed by downloading the data and viewing it in QGIS.

Most datasets have a SAPOBJECTID field which appears to be from council's enterprise resource planning database (ERP). IDs generated by ArcGIS (OBJECTID and GlobalID) should not be used as they are likely not persistent and may change when the data is exported from council's database into ArcGIS. Some datasets therefore do not have a persistent ID, such as "Parking Signs".

When referencing an external dataset, a unique key for that specific dataset should be used, such as ref:AU-QLD:cogc:tree or ref:AU-QLD:cogc:shower. While these values on their own are likely enough to uniquely identify a feature across all council datasets, using unique keys helps other mappers understand what an ID references. There also may be situations where one object in OSM refers to features from multiple datasets, such as a parking sign on the same pole as a street lamp (references Parking Signs, Pole, Lights - could use a more common example?).

Keys currently in use

• ref:AU-QLD:cogc:tree matches TREE_NUMBER in Urban Forest - helpful to include when sourcing species information from a feature in this dataset
• ref:AU-QLD:cogc:shower matches SAPOBJECTID in Public Showers
  • depending on the manufacturer/model, showers may have their ID visible on the ground (shown right)
  • showers may also be constructed with a drinking fountain (NO_OF_BUBBLERS), which is not then present in the Drinking Fountain dataset
• ref:AU-QLD:cogc:drinking_fountain matches SAPOBJECTID in Drinking Fountain

Other useful datasets

• Lights: locations of street lamps in public parks and other council property. Does not have lights on power poles, which appear to be owned by Energex.

• Parking Signs maxstay for parking lots, seems more accurate than the data in Parking Bays. Features are missing a persistent ID.
• Tap: locations of public taps, especially in caravan parks
• Barbeque
• ELEC COMMS FITTING includes:
  • Boiling water units
  • WiFi access points
  • Traffic cameras, with models
  • Power outlets/"utility supply units" in caravan parks
  • Other radio communication devices - BLUETOOTH DEVICE & LoRaWAN

Known issues

• changes from G:Link Stage 3 are missing. Road kerbs and lights have not been updated.
• Urban Forest dataset is not being updated. Have emailed council and they are investigating.
