access_sign=*
is used for tagging signs that regulate access conditions to a highway or area that are not a part of the signs in the traffic regulations ( traffic_sign=*
).
Description
Typically access signs are placed by the land owner or operator and describe the conditions under which the owner allows access to their property. Access signs can also simply state that access is permissive (access=permissive
) instead of an official, legally-enshrined right of access (access=yes
). Access signs can be placed instead of traffic signs or besides traffic signs. Access signs don't just inform users about rules that apply anyway, but access signs actually set the rules they contain, just like mandatory traffic signs do.
Since access signs are not part of the formal traffic regulations, they can have a wide variety in both form and contents.
How to map
Just like traffic_sign=*
access signs can be mapped by adding the access_sign=*
tag to either a single node or a way (or, if applicable, also an area).
Additional tags can be added, such as inscription=*
to capture the contents of the sign to clarify the situation when a separate node is used to tag the sign itself as an object in OSM (or inscription:access_sign=*
when it is used as a property of another feature), or operator=*
Values
Just like traffic_sign=*
, access signs specific to a particular country can be mapped by the country/region prefix followed by a colon and then the traffic sign.
