access_sign:cycling=* is a compound key consisting of: access_sign=*: (Access signs regulate access instead of or besides traffic_sign=*) and :cycling.

This is used for tagging the implications of access signs on legal access for cycling in the area that the area (such as a nature reserve), delimited by those signs.

Description

Variations of real life values on access signs include:

Simple variations:

  • walking and cycling permitted on ways (access_sign:cycling=yes)
  • walking permitted on ways, cycling not permitted (access_sign:cycling=yes)

Conditional variations:

  • walking permitted on ways, cycling not permitted unless on signposted cycleways or signposted mtb routes (access_sign:cycling=no)
  • walking and cycling permitted on ways, but cycling is NOT permitted on signposted hiking routes (access_sign:cycling=yes)
  • cycling permitted during certain days of the year (access_sign:cycling=seasonal)

Depending on the legislation, the implications of access signs may not apply on public roads crossing the area (where access is bicycle=yes instead of bicycle=permissive when not forbidden by traffic signs)

How to map

Add the Tag:Access sign:cycling to the area) involved, based on the contents of the access_signs that delimit the area.

The tagging just indicates whether cycling is allowed or not (yes / no) based on the access_signs, it is a simpler form compared to the values for access=* (so no nuances as designated, permit, permissive etc.)
