This project aims at mapping and maintaining data on educational and training institutions (nursery, kindergarten, primary school, secondary school, vocational secondary school, technical school, dormitory, primary art school, etc.).
The primary key to this is the so-called "OM identifier" of the institutions, managed by the Educational Authority. Etymologically, OM was short for Ministry of Education, when it still existed.
Each institution can be found on the EA Institution Finder page, by code or by settlement.
Use
The ref:HU:om key is the OM identifier of the educational institution. It is a six-digit number, with a leading 0 added as necessary.
An institution may have more than one units. This may be due to a lower (grades 1-4) and upper (grades 5-8) primary school operating in separate buildings, a second site due to lack of space, or simply a merger into a single institution for administrative reasons (= single director).
The code for units is a three-digit number, also prefixed by 0s where necessary, followed by a slash after the OM identifier.
Institutional units may also have additional sites but these are also coded separately for the place of activity, i.e., organisational hierarchy is not indicated.

034549 = Zuglói Egyesített Óvoda (as an institution)
Within this, the designated headquarters:
034549/001 = Zuglói Egyesített Óvoda (1144 Budapest, XIV. kerület, Füredi park 6-8.)
Once separate, now merged. It is only a sub-kindergarten:
034549/006 = Zuglói Egyesített Óvoda Herminka Tagóvoda (1143 Budapest, XIV. kerület, Ida utca 6.)
And its subordinate site:
034549/023 = Zuglói Egyesített Óvoda Herminka Tagóvodája Dózsa György úti Telephelye (1145 Budapest, XIV. kerület, Erzsébet királyné útja 17.)
Life cycle
When an institution is reorganised, renamed, transferred, it is given a new OM code. The previous (and in the case of termination, the successor) institution codes are available from the EA Institution Finder to help tracking the changes.
Accordingly, to help identification on OSM, leave the value ref:HU:om on a defunct/disused institution! It is possible that education will continue in the same building under a different name, which can then be easily identified with the predecessor by means of the key.
EA information
The Educational Authority registers all state-licensed educational institutions, regardless of whether they are maintained by the Hungarian state (XY Klebelsberg School Centre), a local government or a local government association, a church, a religious organisation, a foundation or a private enterprise.
You can also see the changes on the EA website, such as predecessors, successors and sites of activity that have ceased to exist. The same example shows that after the reorganisation, the address of Vezseny was entered differently, even though it is the same school.
It can also be seen that a library in the same building or a gymnasium at the same conscription number can be given a separate site of activity code. In OSM, we use the code of the 'regular' school in the main building.
It is important to note that the contact details (of the school or of the principal) shown here are not necessarily the same as the preferred contact details of the institution itself. We record the latter in OSM.
