ref:woonplaatscode=* is the 4-digit reference code, assigned by the Dutch government to each place (Dutch: woonplaats) in the Netherlands.

The codes are assigned by the Kadaster in the Basisregistratie Adressen en Gebouwen.

The codes are sometimes written with a prefix WP, to clarify that the code is a woonplaatscode. These prefixes are not included in the tagging. Data consumers can prepend prefixes themselves as needed.
