This is a tag that is used to describe geodesic sites, or used combination with Relation:site or public transport stop areas, wind farms, and also for sites dedicated to winter sports. Basically it is the result of uncoordinated tagging. Let's start documenting actual usage, if you know how the tag is used in a specific context, add this information.

Most used values (as of 11/2022) are:
- geodesic - 48.95%
- stop_area - 28.49%
- site=parking - 14.06% - Group entrance for complex/underground parking
- wind_farm - 2.80%
- mall - 1.01%
- site=piste - 0.74% - a site dedicated to winter sports (skiing).
