The step:condition=* tag allows you to indicate whether a staircase has regular steps (same height and depth) and a more or less even surface. This information is useful in particular for people with visual disabilities, or to provide realistic 3D renderings.

Usage

This tag is mainly used to describe stairs (highway=steps).

The step:condition=* tag can take the following values:

  • even – The staircase has regular even steps, all of the same height and depth.
  • uneven – The steps are not all the same size, or at least some are slightly sloping or uneven.
  • rough – The steps are very different in size, some may be missing or they may have steep slopes or other significant irregularities.
