The key tents=* is a qualifying key used with the features tourism=camp_site, tourism=caravan_site, tourism=camp_pitch, tourism=hotel, tourism=motel, tourism=hostel and tourism=chalet. It is also used on shops to clarify if they sell tents or not.

A  tent is a shelter consisting of sheets of fabric or other material draped over, attached to a frame of poles or attached to a supporting rope. While smaller tents may be free-standing or attached to the ground, large tents are usually anchored using guy ropes tied to stakes or tent pegs.

Possible values

  • tents=yes - tents are allowed and the terrain is suitable for tents
  • tents=no - tents are not allowed or the terrain is not suitable for tents

Rationale

Some camping locations are suitable for RV's and caravans, but not for tents. Main reasons a terrain is not suitable for tents are:

  • The entire terrain is covered with tarmac or another material not suitable for tents;
  • The environment is too dangerous, because a risk for animals or bandits exists.
