The lonely buses map ([1]) and list of tiles ([2]), was a tool to help find areas of the UK which are not well mapped, based on bus stop data imported from NaPTAN.

It seems to be offline now, but anyway due to recent mapping progress (OS Locator guided mapping in 2013) it would presumably be looking pretty green now.

Large numbers of these "orphaned" bus stops in an area used to be indicative that key roads or even whole villages and towns were missing from the map.
