Mapping USA is an annual online conference series organized by OpenStreetMap U.S. It began in 2020 as Connect before adopting its present name in 2021. Mapping USA combines the accessibility of virtual mappy hours with the variety of State of the Map U.S.

During the conference, attendees connect with each other on the public #mapping-usa channel on the OSM US Slack instance.

2027

Mapping USA 2027 will take place on January 29th and 30th, with the format following recent years of the conference. Registration is now open, and the Call for Proposals will open in mid-October.

2026

Mapping USA 2026 took place on January 30th and 31st, following a similar schedule as previous iterations: talks on Friday with workshops, mapathons, and/or birds of a feather sessions on Saturday. 23 presenters hosted 28 sessions.

Registration was free, with a suggested $10 donation for non-OpenStreetMap US members. The Call for Proposals opened on September 25th and closed on November 24th.

2025

Mapping USA 2025 was held on January 24th & 25th, with four hours of talks on Friday and workshops, mapathons, and/or birds of a feather sessions on Saturday. Registration was free, with a suggested $10 donation for non-OpenStreetMap US members. The Call for Proposals opened on October 25, 2024, and closed on November 25, 2024 at midnight ET.

2024

The third Mapping USA took place on January 19 and 20, 2024. Sponsors included Microsoft and Meta (Platinum).

2022

Hosted by OpenStreetMap US, the second annual Mapping USA was a virtual event celebrating the OpenStreetMap community across the country. This year featured two collaborations: OSGeo's in-person FedGeoDay conference in Washington, DC scheduled for November 3rd and Wiki Conference North America.

The event included a Mappy Hour on Thursday, a half day of talks on Friday, and a day of workshops, birds of a feather sessions, and mapathons on Saturday. Saturday also featured the global Local Chapters & Communities Congress.

2021

This virtual event was a celebration of all things OpenStreetMap and our community. The event included a Mappy Hour Thursday evening, a scheduled half day of talks on Friday, and a day of workshops, birds of a feather sessions and mapathons on Saturday. Sponsors included Microsoft (Surfs Up), Critigen (Hang Ten), and University of Arizona Libraries (Coastline).

Connect 2020

State of the Map US 2020 was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so OpenStreetMap US hosted "Connect 2020," a free virtual conference in October. Sponsors included Maxar (Presenting), Esri and Mapbox (Gold), SharedStreets and TomTom (Silver), and MapGivem Gaia GPS, and Kaart as Bronze sponsors.
