CCC Hamburg surveillance mapping
Rationale
The CCC Hamburg (Chaos Computer Club Hamburg or short CCCHH) is a local computer club in Hamburg, Germany. A working group within the CCCHH is dealing with surveillance. They approached the local OSM community in Hamburg with the idea to contribute data to OSM that deals with surveillance, mainly surveillance cameras.
The motivation is a better data base for the Surveillance under Surveillance project.
Contact
The main contact person for this activity is hauke-stieler (on osm, edits, contrib, heatmap, chngset com.).
Community Consultation
The local community was contacted, we (OSM Hamburg) had meetings with the CCCHH to discuss and plan the efforts and public announcements for the mapping activity (mailing list and telegram) went out.
Hashtag
We use #ccchh-surveillance (see here for the latest changesets of this activity).
Timeframe
So far the activity is planned for summer 2024 (one meeting to collect data took place on 23th of July).
Tools and Data Sources
We collect data by survey with apps and photos of surveillance cameras and use (mainly) iD or JOSM to add the data to OSM. Photos of surveillance cameras will probably be uploaded and tagged on the POIs in OSM but where the photos are uploaded is yet to be determined.
Participants
The activity is performed by (at least) the following OSM users:
There will be more volunteers participating and we'll ask them to link to this page in their user profile.
Measuring our Success
We don't have a clear goal but to simply add all public surveillance cameras we can find.
Training/Instructions
The user hauke-stieler (on osm, edits, contrib, heatmap, chngset com.) is training participants not familiar with OSM. Adding the data also happens together with people, who are familiar with OSM.
Post-Event Clean Up
There will probably be no clean-up event, since no clean-up will be needed. However, hauke-stieler (on osm, edits, contrib, heatmap, chngset com.) (and maybe others) will probably review the changes at least on a sample basis.
Results
As a result, new nodes of surveillance cameras will be added and wrong/outdated nodes will be updated. Ways or relations will not be added but maybe updated.
The following statistics will document the results according to this query:
Date | Number of nodes |
---|---|
