Great Britain

"for every addressable location in Great Britain" - Northern Ireland is not part of GB. How do our colleagues there feel about using "GB" in the tag name? Are there any precedents? Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 22:02, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

Good spot. Like Jez's comment below that came from a copy and paste from GeoPlace. I think they state GB as I believe the data release (and possibly the Government Digital Service mandation) applies only to GB. I've updated this to UK. As for the questions, I don't know but we can message talk-ie. If only the ISO code was UK this would be much easier for us! --RobJN (talk) 15:56, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

the unique identifier for every addressable location in Great Britain

the unique identifier according to whom? The UK Government? MasterMap? Local Councils? Just for clarity - Jnicho02 (talk) 10:25, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

Ah, that came direct from GeoPlace. I have added the reference to make it clearer that it is their opinion. I've also added reference to the fact that it is the public sector mandated method for sharing property information. --RobJN (talk) 15:56, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

What is the point of extra UPRN-only nodes?

You can get the location of any UPRN from the released open data set, what extra value do we give? --Andrew (talk) 21:08, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

A good question but out of scope here. The intent here is to agree a tag to use rather than to dictate how the data is added. Nevertheless, I tend to agree with you and expect most people will add UPRNs only to nodes with other tags (e.g. address, shop, etc). --RobJN (talk) 22:32, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

GB in upper/lower case

There are now a small number of ref:gb:uprn (3 of which I added via Vespucci), but I think the case should be made explictly as to why the "GB" part of the key is in uppercase. I see no good reason for it, the ISO codes AFAIK are not explicitly upper case. I presume there is precedent with maxspeed:type but havent checked. I'm not really sure that we should push this, it means the tag does not naturally fall into the major key/tag patterns (& is consequently likely to 'mistyped' when autocompletion is not available, but to re-iterate the reason for upper case should be stated explicitly.
