Serbo-Croatian

Please immediately stop incorrectly moving pages from Hr: namespace to Sh: namespace.

Especially as you have not even tried to contact the interested parties at http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-hr !

Croatian (HR) language is different than Serbian language; and while they do have many similarities, it is akin to trying to merge Swedish and Norwegian or Dutch and German !

Serbo-Croat was political term for a group of languages, and NOT a unique language.

I expect you will undo all changes not yet reverted ASAP. After that please contact the mailing list above (and one for Serbian language if you can find it) to discuss how the content should be copied or shared.

see also Template_talk:Languages#Languages_and_politics and official ISO639-1 list of languages which has "HR", "BS" and "SR" but NOT "SH" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mnalis (talkcontribs) 2010-02-28

Yes, sh is not ISO-standard anymore but it is a good code because there is sh.wikipedia.org. The correct macrolanguage code is hbs!
There is no need to contact a mailinglist, just go to Talk:Wiki Translation.
No, Croatian/Serbian is not like Swedish/Norwegian or Dutch/German! It's like Luxembourgian/German/Swiss_German/Austrian_German with less differences. The separation of those Serbo-Croatian dialects is political motivated and not linguistic! I am not involved into the conflicts of former Yugoslavia and speak from a neutral point. What do you do?
--phobie m d 13:36, 23 July 2012 (BST)
I beg to differ with your evaluation, and I've already stated my opinions. Most Croatian (except older people who were forced to learn it in their younger days) will not be able to read Serbian Cyrillic script at all, for example. It might as well be written in Chinese. Rescribing in Latin will help a bunch, and you'd be able to understand at least what the discussion is about, but you'd still be stuck with Dutch/German-alike big differences, not only in word forming but in words themselves -- without first learning foreign language, you'll never be able to guess that "hleb" is "kruh" or "peškir" is "ručnik" or "šargarepa" is "mrkva" or "keva" is "majka" or "kuče" is "pas" or any of the dozens of thousands of other words.
There is also a big political tension, yes, I agree there with you. In the Yugoslavian war, dozens of thousands of people were willing to die in order to secure their children the right to their national identity and their language. By renaming the namespace, you'll look like you're trying to take that right back. Do you still think it is a good idea to stir up such tensions, even if from purely technical POV it might look like good idea (which it is not, as explained above)? Please, I beg you, reach the consensus with all of the people involved before even thinking about such feats.
As for wikipedia, there is also hr.wikipedia.org and sr.wikipedia.org and bs.wikipedia.org. If you volunteer to start and maintain the NEW namespace, I won't be stopping you (although I still think it is a pretty bad idea), but do refrain from any aggressive acts like existing namespace renaming without the consent of its users. Thanks. --mnalis 12:03, 2 August 2012 (BST)

Villain

Hello, where did you get that I do not wish to learn to map better? I asked on the talk list what was wrong in my edits. Can you please point me out how to map better and what in my edits is wrong? Nakor 02:06, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Unwarranted revert on Wiki Translation

Hello Andrew, writing "???" as summary on a revert is not sufficient! If MediaWiki is unable to offer lower-case prefixes AND namespaces, we have to use upper-case prefixes. Everyone agrees that mixed-case prefixes together with upper-case namespaces would be the worst way to go. --phobie m d 10:54, 20 September 2011 (BST)

Template:Languages

Hello, i reverted your changes in the template "Languages". All Wikipages have a error with your changes. see more: http://oi46.tinypic.com/ev1kt0.jpg by --Reneman (talk) 22:40, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestions and encouragement

Andrew, thanks for your input here last week - that's very kind of you. Your suggestions were excellent, and I'm sorry it's taken me a while to reply to them. Each of them was insightful, practical and useful, and I'll be incorporating them all into what I have planned. Thanks for taking the time to help! Moresby (talk) 12:56, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

…and thanks for these fixes - just when I think I've got the last one, something else turns up. :-) Moresby (talk) 06:42, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

Template:Place image

That last edit to Template:Place doesn't seem to be working. It seems to always drop the image. On the Hamburg and WikiProject Montenegro pages for example -- Harry Wood (talk) 08:53, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

FYI, the parameter takes a full file name, including the "File:" prefix. {{#ifexist: File:Example.svg | yes | no }} is only "yes" if there's a page at File:Example.svg. However, most images loaded from Commons don't have local description pages, so the template needs to check for "Media:Example.svg" instead. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 23:49, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

Template TagPagename

Hi, do you have any idea why Template:TagPagename isn't automatilly detecting the page's language? I spent a considerable time staring at the code, and I think I was able to find a bug, but it didn't work even after fixing that. --Jgpacker (talk) 15:11, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

Any real reason to revert my edits?

Page Comparison Google services - OSM linked from single article - Google Map Maker. Why we cannot compare Google services at more appropriate page for this? Google. Page Comparison Google services - OSM superfluous. Now why you reverted my edits and why do we have 2 articles about same topic? Xxzme (talk) 22:04, 11 December 2014 (UTC)

Removing text about transliterations

Please do not remove large chunks of wiki contents to try and proof your side of a discussion. Any significant changes to the specification and use of very well known tags should be done via proposals with a consensus reached. --Deanna Earley (talk) 22:30, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

Taglist

Hi Wynndale, thanks for your help with converting to TagList! I also converted man_made to TagList now.

When I convert a key to TagList, I also have a look at the old definitions in the Map Features table. In most of the cases the definition in the Infobox on the page is better, but every now and then the Map Features table has a better definition. In that case, I update the definition in the Infobox before migrating the key to TagList. For geological and office I had done that already, but if you want to migrate more keys something to pay attention to.

By the way, some of the keys are subdivided in smaller groups on the Map Features page, like the shop keys. Is that something we should preserve, you think? In that case, we should ask Jochen to implement something like that in TagList. Math1985 (talk) 11:20, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Bullying???

Youre comment in the main languags is wrong. This was discussed many times, you just forced it to the main template ignoring all past discussions. And you once again made the errors with significant whitespaces, and once again with incoherent indentation (in addition to be largely excessive). Your incoherent indentation caused also an error in the inclusion level of a pair of braces (for the final part for the optional DEFAULTSORT option). You say "bullying" but you have repeatedly made the same errors each time but I have never removed any feature you wanted to add and that were discussed, I fixed them all along the discussions. — Verdy_p (talk) 07:42, 22 September 2016 (UTC) Also the DEFAULTSORT you wrote had real error with significant whitespaces inserted in the key... — Verdy_p (talk) 07:49, 22 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi Wynndale, you might be interested in User_talk:Verdy_p#why_defaultsort_here.3F. I have mentioned your revert. It seems you and Verdy are of different opinion there. Thank you! --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 20:28, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

leisure=beach kay vs value

I reverted this to a k=v template ok? https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Key%3Aleisure%3Dbeach&type=revision&diff=1407753&oldid=1407609 you can change it back if you think you have a good motivation to do so. No need to discuss it. Erik Johansson (talk) 13:52, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

Map Features:office

We have two templates: Template:Map Features:office and Template:Generic:Map Features:office
Do you know which is important, or which should be internationalized.? --Władysław Komorek (talk) 07:34, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

Template:Langcode

Your new version of this template breaks most of the pages on the wiki (e. g. WikiProject Germany/Bedarfsumleitung/Bayern). Are you planning to fix this, or will I have to revert the template to the old version in the meantime? -- Prince Kassad (talk) 08:10, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

Go ahead, a longer explanation is at Template talk:Langcode#Revert. --Andrew (talk) 12:33, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

module:langcode

Hi, I noticed you wrote Module:Langcode. It seems somewhat duplicating the Module:OsmPageTitleParser, which does similar thing -- given a title, it breaks it into parts. Could we merge them somehow? E.g. langcode essentially does parseTitle(title) for current title. --Yurik (talk) 01:27, 8 December 2018 (UTC)

Go ahead. --Andrew (talk) 12:17, 9 December 2018 (UTC)

Deletion policy

Dear Wynndale,

We would like to invite you to voting in the case of the proposed Deletion policy for wiki pages and files. Based on the input of several contributors, we drafted a deletion policy over the span of two and a half months. Among other things, the policy proposes a centralised discussion page for all cases which are not mentioned explicitly.

Kind regards, EzekielT

PS: I wrote this message on your talk page, because you were involved in a long dispute about deleting in 2018 and 2019 which now led to this policy draft. — EzekielT (talk) 18:11, 16 April 2019 (UTC)

Blanking

would it be OK to blank https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:Wynndale/Languages/div page?

For some reason it ended listed in https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Category:Pages_unavailable_in_English

Are you still using this draft page for something? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 18:47, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
