Proposal

In many countries, fuel depots exist for the distribution of fuel to end users and/or commercial operators.

Rationale

Countries where residents and businesses use home heating oil typically have distribution networks that deliver fuel by truck. The network typically includes refineries, distribution locations, depots and houses.

HOT have also flagged the need for fuel depots to be mapped in an effort to aid humanitarian efforts during crises. Fuel, shelter, food and water are the most in demand tangibles in a crisis.

Examples

Tagging

landuse=industrial is already defined for industrial areas. industrial=fuel_depot is proposed as a subtag which reflects the nature of the facility.

access=private reflects this is not a retail location and customers are not expected to attend the facility. fuel=* is already well established as describing the products available at, or found in, a specific location.

name=* captures the name of the facility. ref=* captures any identifier for the facility. brand=* captures if the facility is tied to a particular brand. operator=* captures if the facility is tied to a particular operator who has multiple depots. website=* phone=*

Applies to

areas or nodes.
