Different meanings of gym Tag:amenity=gym (Don't use)

Proposal

Mapping a gym as a place which houses exercise equipment for the purpose of physical exercise. Most gyms have a main workout area, which primarily consists of free weights including dumbbells, barbells and exercise machines.

leisure=gym

Rationale

My impression from the old discussions is that all native speakers agree that gym is the commonly used term these days and the ambiguity is mainly something non-native speakers see in this word. Many languages probably also have English loanwords (e.g. German Fitnesscenter), which causes some confusion, but as the agreement is to use British English that should not influence the final decision.

Why leisure=* ?

The leisure tag is for places people go in their spare time.
leisure=*

Which is how most people use a gym. Also other tags like leisure=sports_centre,leisure=fitness_station or leisure=pitch all use it.
